COKE CAN EXPERIMENT

Date- 11/01/10

Concept: Expansion and contraction

Activity:To verify that COKE CAN expands on heating and contracts on cooling

First of all, measure the circumference (by using thread) of the CAN.
Then submerge the COKE CAN completely in the water. Heat the water
until the temperature reaches up to 40°C. Then, again measure the
circumference of the CAN. Do the same thing at different temperatures.
Their will be expansion in the circumference.
Then keep the CAN in the refrigerator and after sometime measure the
circumference of the CAN. Their will be slight reduction in it's
circumference (i.e. contraction).
Record these things in a table.

Independent variable: Temperature of COKE CAN
Dependent variable: Circumference of can
Controlled variable: Volume of water

Conclusion: The CAN expands on heating and contrasts on cooling.
